My year as Hermione Granger probably wasn't as Hermione Granger-esque as I had planned, but nevertheless it was a good year. One where I made many great life decisions {such as my decision to go to the United Kingdom in the spring} and accomplished one of my life's goals {graduate from college}. 2012 granted me some of the best and worst moments; the best I hope to cherish and the worst I hope to move away from as quickly as possible.
As for 2013, it has no name. My future at this point is somewhat indeterminable. I am no longer going to school, I have no job, my applications to grad school are still in the process, after June I have no idea where I will be on this wide wide planet, and I'm not certain that I will have any friends this semester {they're all busy with supposedly more important things}. So 2013 is a little blank in terms of overall goals.
But just before midnight on New Years Eve, I grabbed a note card and jotted down a few goals for myself. I may or may not have written down everything I could possibly think of during the stress of the moment, so my actual accomplishment of these goals is still in question.
1. Learn all the hymns on the piano {My mom made me promise that I wouldn't quit piano lessons until I learned all the hymns. As fate would have it, I grew to love piano lessons but never learned all the hymns. Now I neither take piano lessons nor play the piano . . . ever. Wasted talent perhaps?}
2. Run a 10K {This goal is on my list almost every year, but you know I'm closer than I was last year, so that's . . . progress? P.S. This goal has nothing to do with me actually running a race. All I really want is to be able to say that I can run a 10K if I want to. But who ever really wants to do that?}
3. Be accepted to grad school {This is all hinging on my ability to actually finish the applications.}
4. Read 50 Books {To give my mind some much needed nourishment.}
5. Go to Great Britain {Step 2: find a job to fund the trip.}
6. Write a rough draft of a novel {Inspired by a fellow English major who plans to write an entire novel during the month of January. Fun fact: All English majors secretly wish to become world-renowned authors, we just avoid saying it out loud.}
7. Hike the Grand Canyon {I already asked my brother, Paul, if he would hike it with me, but I better follow up with him because sometimes "sure" might not actually mean "yes".}
8. Study the scriptures daily {Like they always say, merely reading isn't always studying.}
2013 is not aimless although it may seem somewhat directionless. I suppose I just want to do what I want to do and see where I am when I get there.
Have a Happy New Year and may your resolutions still be somewhat intact.

P.S. Doesn't this man look shockingly like Alfred Hitchcock? I couldn't resist creeping a picture of him.
Good luck with all your goals! Keep us posted! We love you!
